Re: Star Calibur

Why this is almost a topic worth blogging about! Like when does a franchise hit the right note by branching out into other franchises and when is it just cross-over kill.

Obviously Smash's original concept of Nintendo fighters is gold and is now going f-ing platinum by having sweet non-Nintendo characters like Snake and Sonic. Soul Calibur 2's was very hit or miss. Link-Cool. Heihachi-Huh?, Spawn-Fuck You Todd. Though I did like that each character was on a logical system. Spawn being on the Xbox is almost too perfect.

I'll come up with more later, but one I really liked was the Halo Spartan in Dead or Alive 4. I only saw it once but I read about the genesis of her creation and why it's not Master Chief and it was a really cool idea.

Save for Smash Bros. and other games which are built around crossovers, I think the problem occurs when the crossover stops being a cool hidden secret cameo and becomes one of the major features/selling points of the game. The Spartan sort of works because not only was halo super popular at the time but also, it was a secret that you unlock and go THAT'S CRAZY. Star Wars in Soul Calibur (or pretty much any of the Soul Calibur crossovers, yes even Link) just don't work because they try to build them up as major parts of the game rather than odd random references. Plus there is really no reason for the Star Wars thing. Ughhh. Stupidos.

And about you pre-ordering Smash Bros from Hechenger Mall... DOOOOOO IITTTTTTTT. You could stay over the night before and then GET OUT OF MY FACE WHEN I GET IT CUZ I WILL KILL ANYONE WHO TRIES TO INTERRUPT MY SMASHING
